Is it OK to want an easier job right now?
Jul 03, 2025
Short answer? Hell yes.
Your career should reflect what you want, not some arbitrary, hustle-fueled definition of success.
If you're looking for a high-intensity job with long hours and ambitious stretch goals, that's great.
If you want a job that’s 8 to 5 with a real lunch break and no weekend work? Also awesome.
My whole ethos—that work should feel good—only works if it’s your definition of good. Not LinkedIn’s. Not your boss’s. Yours.
And guess what? Careers happen in seasons.
Traditional career paths where you spent 40 years climbing up a ladder - one that might even be up against the wrong wall - aren't really a thing anymore.
Most people don’t grow in one perfect upward line. They grow in loops:
-
Learn a lot
-
Level up
-
Stabilize
-
Optimize
-
Then jump again
There are times to push, and there are times to pause. Times to lead, and times to heal. Wanting an easier job doesn’t mean you’re lazy or unmotivated—it might mean you’re being intentional.
Life changes. You might be caring for a family member. Going through something health-related. Pursuing a degree. Or maybe you're just tired of being tired.
If that’s you?
Say it with me: It’s okay.
Just be sure you can tell the story when you're ready to shift again—so future employers trust that you’re in the right place at the right time, not biding your time or burning out.
